Afrofuturism is a style & philosophy that brings together African people & culture with technology & science-fiction.
Although the word was coined by white journalist & cultural critic Mark Dery in 1993, afrofuturism has been around since at least the 1950s.
Musicians like Sun Ra & George Clinton pioneered a fusion of African-American musical styles with space sounds & alien themes.
For many, afrofuturism represents hope & a yearning for that which seems to have been out of reach for so long: black prosperity, technological advancement & autocracy.
